Whether you are painting a house in the Everett WA region or the Salt Lake City region, you will need to take the heat into consideration. "Most exterior paint is formulated to perform best when applied at temperatures between 50 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit," states the Columbia Paint website. Columbia Paint is a national company many outlets, primarily in the western portion of the US.
"The proper formation of the paint film can be seriously affected when air temperature is above 80 degrees." The website goes on to say that overly hot weather can cause "pin holing," or "blistering" of the paint. The company suggests following "the sun around the structure when painting to avoid subsequent heating of the surface before the finish has dried."
The company states that the viscosity of the paint is also affected by temperature. "Store the paint in an area that will not exceed 70 degrees F. Paint that is applied when it is too hot will not flow and level properly and can affect proper film build."
