When Deval Patrick came in to speak to our editorial board last week, I told him I couldn’t think of an example where he had tried to go around the Legislature’s leaders to get something approved that he wanted but they didn’t.
“I respect their process,” he said, but he was speaking to legislators around the state about his transportation, education and tax initiatives. I expect that means he understands that the way to get support from House Speaker Bob DeLeo and Senate President Therese Murray is to get their members to tell them to support Patrick’s proposals. The way to get the members’ support is by taking his case to the people. Which is why he asked to meet with the editorial board and pleaded for our endorsement.
