(NOTE: This is an adaptation of something I posted about a year ago.)

On days like this, with temperatures likely to reach well into the 90s in many locales, we’re more thankful, of course, for air conditioning than at most other times.

But air conditioning has become so commonplace that we usually tend to take it for granted. We also tend to ignore its considerable impact on our health, our environment and even our politics.
