  • TOWN OF DANUBE James E. "Ernie" Sekel, 49, of Bellinger Road, town of Danube, passed away peacefully, after a long illness, on Monday, May 5, 2014, at Valley Health Services, with his loving family by his side.
    He was born March 12, 1965, in Little Falls, the son of the late Joseph and Julia (Primmer) Sekel, and was a graduate of Little Falls High School.
    A lifelong organic farmer, Ernie ran the family farm along side of his brother in the town of Danube.
    He was generous and devoted to everyone in his life, proving himself a loving and caring father, brother and uncle. An avid outdoorsman, Ernie enjoyed every aspect of farming and his cows, especially his favorite cow, Baby.
    Survivors include his son, James E. "Goose" Sekel and girlfriend, Maria Cirelli, of Herkimer; and two brothers, Joseph Sekel and wife, Jeanine, and Robert "Bert" Sekel and girlfriend, Karen Schaffer, all of the town of Danube. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Laura McGee, of Vernon Center; three nephews, Joey, Jason and Jack Sekel; a great-niece, Alanna Sekel; and a great-nephew, Jayce Sekel.
    A memorial service for Ernie will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at 7 p.m. from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer, 866-1500. The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Thursday, May 15, 2014, from 5 p.m. until the time of the services.
