  • NEWBURGH, N.Y. — Herkimer native BreLynn Nasypany has been hired to coach the varsity Knights at Mount Saint Mary College.
A 2011 graduate of William Smith College, Nasypany was the 2010 D3soccer.com Forward of the Year and a three-time NSCAA All-American. She led the Liberty League in goals (18), assists (13) and points (49) as a senior and set school records for the latter two categories. A four-year starter, she recorded 53 career goals and 32 career assists for 138 points, ranking second in school history in all three categories.
Over the past three seasons, Nasypany coached William Smith’s junior varsity Herons to a 24-5-1 record, including an 11-0-0 mark last fall when they outscored opponents 57-1.
“We at Mount Saint Mary College are elated to hire someone of BreLynn’s caliber and pedigree,” athletic director Dan Twomey said in a statement. “With coach Nasypany having both played and coached at the highest level of Division III women’s soccer, I am very much looking forward to our program taking the next step up under her guidance.”
Nasypany also assisted in coaching the William Smith varsity, which won the 2013 NCAA Division III National Championship. She and the rest of the Heron coaches were voted the 2013 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year.
“The truth is, I dreaded the day that Bre played her final game in a William Smith uniform and then I dreaded her graduation,” William Smith coach Aliceann Wilber says. “We have been enormously fortunate to have benefited from both her coaching aptitude and loyalty to the William Smith soccer program these past three years, let alone the playing legacy she created before that. Of course I have also dreaded the day she would drive her car, all loaded up, away from Geneva and headed toward a new coaching opportunity. But it’s time for her to move on. We are thrilled and sad at the same time. I know she will bring great energy and expertise to the Mount Saint Mary soccer program.”
