  • MEN'S LACROSSE: Generals split weekend games

  • HERKIMER, N.Y. — Herkimer County Community College’s Generals split decisions over the weekend and kept their record over .500 heading into Wednesday’s game at top-ranked Onondaga Community College.
    Beaten at home 21-8 by Dean College Saturday, the Generals (5-4) bounced back Sunday with a 14-5 win over the Thunderwolves at Niagara County Community College
    The Generals trailed Niagara 2-1 early but got consecutive goals from Tony Karam, Kyle Lee and Joel Braun to take the lead in the first quarter and never fell back behind.
    Herkimer led the Thunderwolves 5-3 at halftime and outscored them 9-2 after the intermission.
    Lee scored four goals in the win and Christian Ojeda added three. Braun and Karam each had two goals and an assist, Jonathan Camera and Michael Fuoco each had one goal and two assists, Jeremy Mowrey had a goal and an assist, and Nashawn Hoffman and goalie Austin Loeffel each had an assist.
    The Dean game was tied at 3 after the first quarter but the Bulldogs took an 11-4 lead before halftime and stretched it to 15-4 in the third quarter.
    Michael Patjane had four goals and three assists for Dean, Michael Jednak had three and three, and Tyler Osborn and Ryan Dotson each had three and two. Lee scored three goals for Herkimer, Camera had a goal and an assist, and four other Generals scored goals.
    Herkimer finishes the regular season at home Saturday against Tompkins Cortland Community College.
