  • SCHOLASTIC SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Mounties come back, walk off with win

  • LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — The Little Falls Mounties walked off with a 9-8 win over Frankfort-Schuyler’s Maroon Knights Wednesday on leadoff hitter Kaitlyn Duesler’s two-out, run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh inning.
    The Mounties (1-1, 1-1 CSC-II) had trailed 5-0 and 8-1 before rallying to tie the game in the fifth inning. A five-run fourth inning had pulled Little Falls within one run of Frankfort-Schuyler and the tying run crossed the plate one inning later.
    Lauren Bennett drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the seventh and advanced to second base on Caira Miles’ sacrifice bunt. Duesler then gave the Mounties their first win of the season with a single to right field.
    Frankfort-Schuyler (0-1, 0-1 CSC-II) had taken the initial lead by scoring five runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Maroon Knights came back with three more in the third after Little Falls put one across in the bottom of the second.
    Maria DiNigro doubled, tripled and drove in five runs for the Maroon Knights.
    Hannah Becker had two hits and drove in a run for Little Falls. After walking seven batters during the second and third innings, pitcher Amy Hart walked just two more while shutting the Maroon Knights out for the fourth through seventh.
    The game was moved from Frankfort Wednesday morning because of field conditions. The schools also moved their May 5 game to Frankfort.

    ILION, N.Y. — Aliza Mathis had three hits and scored two runs for Adirondack Wednesday in the Wildcats’ 9-1 win over the Central Valley Academy Thunder.
    Jamie Miller added two hits and scored two runs while Lexi Charbonneau had two hits and drove in two runs for the Wildcats (1-0, 1-0 CSC-I) who outhit the Thunder 12-5.
    Nicole Schumacher had two hits for Central Valley Academy (2-3, 0-2 CSC-I) and scored a run in the third inning. Taylor Lindig had a double among the five Thunder hits.

    HERKIMER, N.Y. — Shannon Cool and McKenzie Pine combined to pitch a one-hit shutout for Herkimer Wednesday in the Magicians’ 18-0 win over the Dolgeville Blue Devils.
    The Magicians (1-0, 1-0 CSC-II) scored in each of the six innings in which they batted and led 10-0 after two.
    Page 2 of 2 - Cool struck out five batters, walked one and allowed one hit through four innings. Pine fanned four batters in three hitless innings with no walks.
    Megan Ball, Lindsey Parese and Brianna Parks each had three of the 17 Herkimer hits. Ball homered and scored three runs, Parese scored four times, and Parks had four runs batted in.
