  • LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — Frankfort-Schuyler was the only team to beat the Little Falls Mounties within Division II of the Center State Conference last spring. The Maroon Knights did it again Wednesday when they opened their season with a 10-3 win in a game that was moved to Veterans Memorial Park.
Joe DeSarro, the winning pitcher in Frankfort-Schuyler’s 3-1 win at home April 17, 2013, got the start Wednesday and struck out 15 Little Falls batters in a complete game. After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, he allowed just one run over the remaining six and finished with a four-hitter.
The Maroon Knights (1-0, 1-0 CSC-II) scored a run in the second inning and took the lead in the top of the third. With the tying run already home and the bases loaded, Shawn Cool singled through the right side of the infield and sent two more runs across the plate with two outs.
Theo Wind drove in a run in the bottom of the third inning for Little Falls (1-1, 1-1 CSC-II) but Frankfort-Schuyler added one run in the sixth then scored five in the seventh. The Mounties put another runner on base before DeSarro got out of the third with back-to-back strikeouts.
Wind had scored the first run of the game on a double by Sean Ward. Ward later scored on a wild pitch to give Little Falls its 2-0 lead.
Michael Luppino had two hits and scored a run for Little Falls, and Mark Spina had two hits for Frankfort-Schuyler.
