  • SCHOLASTIC SOFTBALL: Hawkeyes top Mounties to start CSC-II season

  • LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — Maria Noto struck out 16 Little Falls batters Monday in the Cooperstown Hawkeyes’ 7-4 win over the Mounties Monday.
    The Hawkeyes (2-0, 1-0 CSC-II) trailed 2-1 before tying the game with a run in the fifth inning and taking the lead with three in the sixth. Little Falls, which had scored two runs in the first inning, added two in the sixth but fell short of a complete comeback.
    Alexie Tsouvas had two hits for Cooperstown and drove in three runs, including the tying run. Maggie Hall tripled in the first inning and scored the game’s first run. Noto allowed eight hits but did not walk a batter.
    Little Falls pitcher Amy Hart struck out 10 batters and walked seven; she also had a double and a triple among the eight hits for the Mounties (0-1, 0-1 CSC-II). Four of the Little Falls hits went for extra bases.

    ILION, N.Y. — Madison Williams hit of of Holland Patent’s three home runs Monday and drove in six runs in the Golden Knights’ 24-4 win over the Central Valley Academy Thunder.
    Williams also had three singles in her four-hit game for the Golden Knights (1-0, 1-0 CSC-I). Shelby Kotary tripled and homered for Holland Patent and Ally Livesey had the other home run. Jessica Livesey, Adrienne Lyon and Kelsea Litz each had three hits among Holland Patent’s 21.
    The Golden Knights scored eight runs in the second inning and 11 in the fifth.
    Taylor Lindig hit her second home run of the season and also singled for Central Valley Academy (2-2, 0-1 CSC-I). Nicole Schumacher also had two hits.
