  • EAST HERKIMER/LITTLE FALLS, NY — Laureen M. “Laurie” (Stark) Scanlon, age 55, currently residing in East Herkimer, and formerly of Little Falls, entered into eternal rest on Sunday afternoon, April 6, 2014, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, NY. Laurie had been fighting a courageous battle with cancer and her son, Ryan, and loving family members surrounded her at the time of her passing.
    She was born in Herkimer on October 25, 1958, daughter of the late William Stark and Martha (Sarafin) Stark, of East Herkimer, and educated in valley schools, graduating from Herkimer County Community College. On June 16, 1979, she was united in marriage with Thomas J. Scanlon. Tom passed away on September 18, 2007. Laurie was loved by all her co-workers at Little Falls Hospital, where she was employed for many dedicated years in the laboratory.
    She also, in recent years, volunteered her time to those who were without family and staying at the hospital, offering them comfort and encouragement. Laurie had created many wonderful memories with her many loving family members and friends. She will be sorely missed by all the lives she had touched.
    Survivors include her devoted family: son, Ryan Scanlon and wife, Ashley, of Wappingers Falls, NY; her mother, Martha Stark, of E. Herkimer; siblings, Anna Marie Cammuso and husband, Paul, of Naples, FL, Cynthia Stark-Wickman and husband, Gunnar, of Friday Harbor, WA, Linda Sowa and husband, Mark, of Auburn, NH, Michelle Renner and husband, Thomas, of Canton, OH, Jacqueline Rhen and husband, Steven, of Edinboro, PA, and Michael Stark and wife, Rosalie, of Herkimer; and many adored nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
    The family invites relatives and friends to pay their respects at the new Daniel J. Enea Funeral and Cremation Care, 5860 State Route 5, East Herkimer, on Thursday, April 10, 2014, from 5-8 p.m. Laurie’s funeral will commence at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home, on Friday, April 11, 2014, with Deacon Joe DeLorenzo, of Holy Family Parish, officiating. Procession will follow to St. Mary’s Cemetery, town of Herkimer, where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
