  • Nurse practitioners open independent pediatric practice

  • HERKIMER — Herkimer Family Nurse Practitioners PLLC, co-owned by Charlene Macri, FNP, and Michelle Gorski, FNP, will open its doors on Monday, April 14, as a pediatric primary care practice.
    The practice at 237 E. Steele St., Herkimer, will accept new patients ages newborn to 21 years of age. Office hours will be Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with 24-hour on call coverage provided.
    Macri is a board certified family nurse practitioner with over 30 years experience in health care. She is a graduate of Community General Hospital’s family nurse practitioner program in Syracuse with a degree in family nurse practitioner, and is board certified by the AANP. She has over 16 years experience as a nurse practitioner focusing in pediatric and adolescent medicine including inpatient, admissions and nursery. Macri also has been employed for 16 years by Little Falls Hospital’s Dolgeville after hours clinic. She is the full-time provider for the Herkimer County jail. Macri is a lifelong resident of the Mohawk Valley and resides in Herkimer with her husband.
    Gorski is a board certified family nurse practitioner with 14 years experience in health care. She s a graduate of SUNYIT with a master’s degree in family nurse practitioner and is board certified by the ANCC. She has 12 years experience as a critical care nurse and three years experience as a nurse practitioner focusing in pediatrics. Gorski also has three years experience working as a nurse practitioner in the urgent care and ER setting. She is a child abuse medical provider educated at SUNY Upstate and works in collaboration with the Herkimer County Child Advocacy Center. She is a lifelong resident of the Mohawk Valley and lives in Ilion with her family.
    Macri and Gorski hold certifications in basic life saving, advanced cardiac life saving and pediatric advanced life saving. They have hospital privileges at Faxton-Luke’s Healthcare in Utica.
    Herkimer Family Nurse Practitioners will provide primary care for the pediatric population including preventative health care and education, sick call for acute or chronic illness, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, prescribing medication and other treatments, promoting positive health behaviors, as well as collaborating with physicians and other health care professionals as needed.
    Collaborating physician will be Dr. Dennis Maser, pediatrics. Dr. Maser will remain open and accepting patients at 417 Henry St., Herkimer.

    As Herkimer Family Nurse Practitioners opens its practice on April 14, representatives from Fidelis Care will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to answer questions about health insurance and help eligible residents apply for enrollment. Current Fidelis Care members may also receive assistance completing their annual recertification.
