  • BOYS' VOLLEYBALL: Westmoreland knocks Herkimer out of Section III playoffs

  • WESTMORELAND, N.Y. — The Westmoreland Bulldogs were 3-1 winners over Herkimer Monday as Section III’s 2014 playoffs got under way.
    The fourth-seeded Bulldogs’ 25-20, 24-26, 25-16, 26-24 victory earned them a shot at three-time defending champion Mt. Markham in the Class C semifinals Tuesday.
    Zoltan Csoknyay had 14 kills, five blocks and four digs for Herkimer (3-17); Brett Baker had 11 kills, three blocks, one dig and one assist; Colin Acker had 11 assists, five kills, one block and 13 digs; Zack Rosenberger had six kills, four aces, seven digs and two assists; and Michael Stalteri had 10 assists, nine digs and one ace.
    Tim Harrison had five kills, one block and two digs for Westmoreland (7-11); Anthony Poile had nine assists, four kills, two blocks and two digs; Kevin Fedor had nine assists, two digs and one kill; James Nowak had 16 digs and two aces; Tyler Misiaszek had four blocks, two aces, one assist and one dig.
    Westmoreland plays at Mt. Markham Tuesday at 6 p.m. while Little Falls plays at Canastota in the other semifinal. The semifinal winners head to Oneida Thursday to play in the sectional championship match at 5 p.m.
