DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. — The Dolgeville Blue Devils’ long run of league championships is all but over following a 3-1 loss at home Friday against Herkimer’s Magicians.
The 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 25-23 victory gave Herkimer a sweep of the Blue Devils in Kristen Guernsey’s first season as varsity coach. Dolgeville previously split two matches with Cooperstown and sits third behind the Magicians and Hawkeyes in the Center State Conference’s Division II standings.
Dolgeville entered the season with a streak of 18 consecutive outright or shared league titles in the Inter Valley League and Center State Conference.
Cooperstown swept three games at Herkimer Dec. 16 and has lost only to Dolgeville in league play. The first Cooperstown match is Herkimer’s only CSC-II loss. The teams meet again Jan. 27 in Cooperstown.
Caitlyn Roorda had 11 kills, six blocks, two aces, an assist and 15 digs for Herkimer (8-3, 3-1 CSC-II) Friday; Jami Peters had 30 assists, 10 digs, an ace and a kill; Natalie Schrader had nine kills and two blocks; Elly Pontius had 17 digs; Paige Klock had 10 digs, five kills and two aces; and Krista Green had eight kills and seven digs.
Emilie Bode had 11 kills, two blocks and two digs for Dolgeville (8-5, 3-3 CSC-II); Kaylee Brandow had 23 digs and six kills; Taylor Brandow had 11 kills, two blocks, 18 digs and an ace; Annabelle Lee had two kills, a block, an assist and two digs; Katie Millard had 20 digs and an ace; Abby Mosenthin had eight kills, two aces, an assist and 26 digs; Courtney Normoyle had 17 assists, two aces and six digs; and Courtney Rachon had 18 assists, five kills, an ace and 10 digs.
Dolgeville won 25-12, 25-19 in junior varsity play. Mercedes Rumrill had five aces, five assists and a dig for the Blue Devils; Mariya Daukontas had two aces and three digs; Emily Krasko had four aces and a dig; and Rachael Gross had four kills, three assists, one ace and one dig.
Herkimer has a match Monday in Van Hornesville against Owen D. Young. Dolgeville next plays Tuesday at home against Frankfort-Schuyler.
