  • GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL: Mounties earn first victory

  • LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — The Little Falls Mounties ended a season-long victory drought Friday when they came back from a two games-to-one deficit at home and defeated Frankfort-Schuyler 3-2.
    The visiting Maroon Knights had taken their 2-1 lead by dominating the third game but Little Falls won tightly-contested fourth and fifth games to close out its 23-25, 25-19, 8-25, 25-23, 25-21 victory.
    The Mounties let an 11-7 lead slip away in the fifth game and trailed, briefly, at 12-11. A hit into the net by Frankfort-Schuyler gave Little Falls a 13-12 edge on the changeover. The Maroon Knights never regained the lead but tied the score at 18, 19, 20 and 21. Frankfort-Schuyler sent two of its final three serves into the net and Little Falls claimed the last four points, closing out the win with a hit by Lindsey Tolman that landed inside the back line. The Mounties broke the 21-all tie when Samantha Ackerman won a joust at the net then Kali Yerina served out the game.
    Samantha Dewan had seven kills, two aces and three digs for Little Falls (1-12, 1-4 CSC-II); Ackerman had five kills, four assists and three digs; Lauren Shepardson had four kills, six assists and three digs; Carolyn Alford had four aces, one kill and four digs; Yerina had three aces, two kills and six digs; Tolman had two aces, three kills and three digs; Tara Van Alstine had two kills and five digs; Courtney Liddon had two aces, one kill and two digs; Christina Deschene had one ace, one kill and three digs; Winter Polnak had two aces and two digs; and Kourtney Moser had two digs.
    Brianna Manzo had five aces, five kills, 10 blocks and 10 assists for Frankfort-Schuyler (3-7, 1-2 CSC-II); Marina Skorina served seven aces and had nine kills; Alyssa Unsinn had nine kills, seven blocks, two aces and one assist; and Jamie Juliano had three aces, 15 assists and five digs.
    Frankfort-Schuyler won the junior varsity match in three games, 24-26, 25-22, 25-21. Casey Baumeister had five aces, six assists, three kills and three digs for Little Falls; Molly Bucenec had two aces, two kills and four digs; Taylor Giaquinto had six kills, a block, two aces and three digs; Shelby Muller had two kills and four digs; Olivia Davis had three aces and three digs; and Rebecca Swart had an ace, a kill and two digs.
    Each team travels to Dolgeville to play its next match, Frankfort-Schuyler Tuesday and Little Falls Wednesday.
