  • BOYS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Mounties top Class A V-V-S

  • VERONA, N.Y. — The Little Falls Mounties made it two wins in two night against larger schools when they traveled to Vernon-Verona-Sherrill and defeated the Red Devils 71-64 Tuesday.
    The Mounties (10-2), 67-55 winners over Class B Sherburne-Earlville at home Monday, led 32-26 at halftime against Class A Vernon-Verona-Sherrill then outscored the Red Devils (2-11) 28-16 in the third quarter. Trailing by 18 points at the start of the final period, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill put up 22 points in the fourth quarter but fell short of coming all the way back.
    Mitchell Baumeister led Little Falls with 21 points while Brian Ewanyk scored 19 and Rahmere Greene had 15.
    Jeremy VanDuLuitgaarden scored 22 points for Vernon-Verona-Sherrill and Justin VanDuLuitgaarden had 14.
    The Mounties, undefeated within Division II of the Center State Conference, return to league play Friday for a game at home against Cooperstown.

    COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — The Cooperstown Hawkeyes built a 28-point lead by outscoring Dolgeville in each of the first three quarters Tuesday and defeated the Blue Devils 62-38.
    Christian Alexander had 28 points for the Hawkeyes (7-5, 3-2 CSC-II) who led 19-6 after the opening period, 34-16 at halftime and 51-23 through three quarters. Grant Davine added nine points.
    Brandon Lewandowski hit three three-pointers and scored 18 points to lead Dolgeville (1-9, 0-5 CSC-II). Alex Johnson scored 12 points.
    Both teams play on the road Friday, the Blue Devils at Frankfort-Schuyler and the Hawkeyes at Little Falls.
