  • ALBANY — Legislation to move New York’s primary election day for federal and state offices as the fourth Tuesday in June passed in the New York State Assembly.
The effort, sponsored by Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi, D-Utica, will save state and local governments about $50 million, according to a news release.
Between the cost of ballots, wages for election workers and other expenses, the bill could save Herkimer County approximately $59,000 with the bill, according to the release.
Oneida County could see savings of about $117,600, the release said.
The bill will align the state with the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act, which requires states to deliver absentee ballots of military personnel and citizens living abroad no later than 45 days before a federal election.
