FRANKFORT — The Col. Marinus Willett-Mohawk Valley Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution of Frankfort honored Edward Liberty, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Liberty of Ilion, as the chapter’s 2013 DAR Good Citizen. He is the first recipient of the award from Central Valley Academy after the merger of the Mohawk and Ilion school districts.
Liberty was selected by the academy faculty and his fellow students for his qualities of dependability, service and patriotism.
The award was presented by Carolyn Beran, chairman DAR Good Citizen Committee, at the chapter’s Nov. 2 meeting at the Knight Spot Restaurant in Frankfort.
During his school years Liberty has been involved with wrestling and soccer, and was captain of the 2013 soccer team. He received recognition for his backstage skills with the spotlight for the school plays “Into the Woods” and “Thoroughly Modern Millie.” Other achievements include running the Boilermaker Road Race in 2013, helping friends in the Mott Marathon completing 24 miles himself and volunteering in the Zombie Run for the American Red Cross.
Liberty is fluent in Spanish and enjoys history. He hopes to attend college after graduation in June, to study languages and foreign diplomacy in order to become an interpreter in the United States of America Diplomatic Corps.
