  • BOYS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: ‘Toppers win in Mayfield

  • MAYFIELD, N.Y. — The Fort Plain Hilltoppers traveled to Mayfield Wednesday and got payback for an earlier defeat with a 54-32 win over the Panthers.
    The Hilltoppers (6-5, 4-3 WAC North) trailed by three points after the opening period but outscored the Panthers (5-3, 4-2 WAC North) 47-22 over the final three.
    Xavier Lanier and Jon Calbet each scored nine points to lead Fort Plain. Zach Florian scored eight points and Isiah Empie and Aiden Van Loan each had seven.
    Joe Ringer and Riley Yager each had seven points for Mayfield which had beaten the Hilltoppers 68-58 in Fort Plain Dec. 4.
    Fort Plain’s next game is Jan. 15 at Canajoharie.

    NORTHVILLE, N.Y. — The Canajoharie Cougars led by 15 points at halftime on the way to a 55-28 win in Northville Wednesday.
    The Cougars (6-3, 5-2 WAC North) got 12 points from Dillan Veeder and led the Falcons (3-7, 2-5 WAC North) 27-12 at the break. Josh Gonzalez added nine points and Zach Ouderkirk scored eight.
    Danny Reidell’s 15 points led Northville.
    Canajoharie takes on Mayfield Friday.

    MOHAWK, N.Y. — The Central Valley Academy Thunder made a run at Center State Conference Division I-leading Sherburne-Earlville Wednesday but the Marauders held on to win 52-49 at Jarvis Middle School.
    Playing in the former home of the Mohawk Mohicans, the Thunder led 11-7 after one quarter and outscored Sherburne-Earlville 23-15 in the fourth. The Marauders (7-2, 4-0 CSC-I) led 37-26 entering the final period despite failing to reach double figures in two of the first three quarters.
    Austin Jasper led Sherburne-Earlville with 20 points. Kevin Vibbard added 11 points and Ben Khoury scored 10.
    Page 2 of 3 - Connor Day led the Thunder (1-9, 1-3 CSC-I) with 15 points. Mark Brough scored eight.
    Central Valley Academy plays at West Canada Valley Friday while Sherburne-Earlville is home for a game against Frankfort-Schuyler.

    WEST WINFIELD, N.Y. — The Mt. Markham Mustangs held a lead in the first half before Westmoreland made a big run in the Bulldogs’ 59-52 win Wednesday.
    The Mustangs were up 16-9 early in the second quarter but were outscored 14-5 the rest of the first half and 19-7 in the third quarter as Westmoreland opened a 14-point lead on the road.
    Mt. Markham (3-5, 1-4 CSC-III) got back to within four points twice in the fourth quarter but turned the ball over once and missed two shots the second time.
    Travis Nelson and Mike Alsante each scored 16 points to lead Mt. Markham while Tyler Taverne had the same total for Westmoreland (5-3, 3-2 CSC-III). Nelson scored 13 of his points in the fourth quarter.
    The Mustangs are home again Friday for a game against Canastota.

    MUNNSVILLE, N.Y. — The Frankfort-Schuyler Maroon Knights outscored Stockbridge Valley 39-8 in the second half of Wednesday’s 66-28 victory over the Cougars.
    Stockbridge Valley (1-8) outscored the Maroon Knights 14-9 in the second quarter and trailed by seven points at halftime on its home court.
    Mitchel Shortt scored 15 points, Rich Morocco had 14 and Mark Spina had 13 for the Maroon Knights (2-5).
    Tyler Harrington led the Cougars with 10 points.
    Frankfort-Schuyler’s next game is Friday at Sherburne-Earlville.
