  • HERKIMER — No decision has been made yet on which search firm will be used to guide the Herkimer County Community College Board of Trustees in their search for a new president.
Mary Ellen Clark, board secretary and chair of the personnel committee, said during a telephone interview Thursday the board met in executive session Wednesday evening to discuss possible search firms. She said, however, they are still in the process of determining which firm will be the “best firm to work with.”
“We are looking for firms that work specifically with community colleges,” said Clark, noting there are several that would be good candidates.
Clark said they do expect to have a decision made by the board's regular meeting on Jan. 22, or to make one during the meeting.
The board unanimously appointed Nicholas Laino to the position of officer-in-charge effective Feb. 1 during a special meeting on Dec. 18. Laino currently sits as the chief administration and finance officer at HCCC. He has been with the college since 2005, and served as the officer-in-charge during the search for a president in 2008 when Ann Marie Murray was originally hired for the president's position, according to Clark.
Murray announced her retirement effective Jan. 31 so she can spend more time with her family. She is also taking on a job at the University of Albany in the provost office in academic program development.
