  • DOLGEVILLE — Larry F. Salek, 56, of Dolgeville, New York, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 5, 2014, at his home.
    Larry was born on August 14, 1957, in Little Falls, New York, a son of the late William and Helen (Hughes) Salek. He attended Dolgeville Central School and graduated with the bicentennial Class of 1976. He was currently employed by Burrows Paper Corporation in Little Falls, New York, as a machine tender, in which he was just recently promoted.
    He was of the Catholic faith and a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church. Larry was a member of the Dolgeville Fire Department Benevolent Association. His most recent volunteer work was within his membership of the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club and served on the Board of Directors. Larry was a collector of all types of memorabilia, especially Hallmark ornaments. He was an avid Yankees fan and loved to snowmobile and barbeque.
    One of Larry’s most distinct qualities was his social skills and being a people person especially within his association at the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club. His volunteering, friendships and dedication to his friends and family will not be forgotten. A companion, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Larry will truly be missed by all he touched.
    Larry is survived by his beloved lifelong companion, Dorinda Snyder, of Dolgeville, NY; his sons, John Salek and his wife, Angelia, of Little Falls, NY, Richard Salek and his fiancee, Amanda Maikranz, of Little Falls, NY, Mark Allen, of Dolgeville, NY, and Travis Allen and his companion, Jamie Nellis, of Caroga Lake, NY; five cherished grandchildren, Harleigh Marie, Annalyse, Bryson, Logan and Lacey; a brother, Randy Salek and his companion, Linda Czum, of Buffalo, NY; an aunt, Marion Piehler, of Dolgeville, NY; a nephew, Raymond Salek, of Rochester, NY; cousins; and many, many friends.
    He was predeceased by his parents and an uncle, Robert Piehler, in 1998.
    Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., immediately following calling hours, on Saturday, January 11, 2014, with Rev. R.W. Williams, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Salisbury Rural Cemetery in the spring at a time to be announced.
