WEST SENECA — State police say a trooper is hospitalized after his patrol car was hit on the Thruway outside Buffalo by vehicle driven by a man who was high on drugs.
Officials say Trooper Leonard Kasniak was helping with the shutdown of Interstate 90 because of the weather when his vehicle was hit around midnight Monday at Exit 55 in West Seneca.
Troopers say the other car was driven by a 22-year-old man from Orchard Park who was charged with vehicular assault and driving while ability impaired by drugs.
Kasniak was taken to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo for treatment of unspecified injuries. Officials say he’s expected to be in the hospital for a couple days.
Authorities say the blizzard-like conditions at the time of the crash appear to have been a contributing factor.
