Construction in Consumer Square soon will lend itself to a Chipotle Mexican Grill.
New Hartford Town Codes Officer Joseph Booth said Thursday that foundation work has commenced on a 5,220-square-foot building next to the shopping center's Barnes & Noble bookstore in New Hartford, and plans were submitted for a Chipotle to set up shop in the building.
"Chipotle plans were submitted to me. I'm assuming that's where they're going," Booth said. "That's what I think is happening."
He explained that the owner of Consumer Square, Benderson Development Co., LLC, applied for a shell building permit for the new structure and, typically, once the building is up tenants will apply for the space. Booth was unsure when construction would be complete.
Chipotle is the only company he's received plans for, Booth said, however, there is enough space for another company to move in.
The Mexican grill touts itself as being committed to "food with integrity," which according to Chipotle's website means supporting family farmers who respect their land and animals, using meat without added hormones or antibiotics and sourcing organic and local produce when possible.
