HERKIMER — Herkimer County Habitat for Humanity is currently accepting applications for partner families. The deadline to apply is Feb. 14.
Habitat for Humanity is a Christian housing ministry that builds homes with partner families who want to become homeowners, but might lack the means to do so through conventional methods.
A partner family must invest 500 or more hours of “sweat equity” in the building of the home. Habitat volunteers provide the labor at no cost, but the family repays the cost of materials through a no-interest loan.
Families must meet low-income requirements and be able to repay the cost of materials. They must be residents of Herkimer County.
Applications are available by calling Habitat at 866-4909 and leaving a name and callback number on the answering machine or by mailing a request to P.O. Box 148, Herkimer, NY 13350.
For more information, call Donna Fulmer, chairwoman of the Habitat Selection Committee, at 866-4939 before 9 p.m.
Habitat is an equal opportunity housing organization that has partnered with seven families in the building of homes in Herkimer County since its affiliation in 1997.
