  • POLAND — Poland Middle School/High School Principal Jason Mitchell recently received a Genesis Group “outstanding educator” award for his work with Poland students.
Mitchell was among the educators and programs honored at the Genesis Group’s eighth annual Celebration of Education on Nov. 21 at Hart’s Hill Inn, Whitesboro.
Going into the evening, Mitchell didn’t know much about what to expect at the event. He was surprised when he walked in and saw hundreds of people in attendance — including many of the area’s great educators, he said.
“I just feel humbled to be part of this group,” he said.
Mitchell, who also received the New York State Council on Leadership and Student Activities New York State Administrator of the Year award a year ago, was honored by the Genesis Group for focusing on what’s best for students, making an impacts on students’ lives, the love he has of working with students and his initiative to help students leave Poland with not just good academics, but also as good citizens.
“It’s certainly a proud moment for the district,” Poland Superintendent Laura Dutton said. “It’s an acknowledgment of his commitment to the students and the hard work that he puts in every day.”
