UTICA — A 49-year-old man has been sentenced to 24 years to life in prison for shooting his wife to death at their central New York home.
Local media outlets report that Larry Utter was sentenced Monday in Oneida County court for killing 45-year-old Stacey Utter.
Utter claimed he accidentally shot his wife last June when he was preparing to shoot a porcupine in the yard. He said he shot her a second time because he didn’t want to see her suffer.
Judge Michael Dwyer said nobody believes that version of the shooting except Utter himself.
