  • BOYS' BASKETBALL: CVA beats Adirondack for first hoop victory

  • ILION, N.Y. — Mitchell Werenczak missed a triple-double by one assist Monday afternoon helped the Central Valley Academy Thunder defeat Adirondack’s Wildcats 61-37 for its first-ever win in boys’ basketball
    The Thunder (1-5, 1-2 CSC-I) shut Adirondack out in the second quarter and led 29-13 at halftime of a game that had been tied at the end of the opening period.
    “Their pressure kind of helped us,” Central Valley Academy coach Luke Judd said. “We turned the ball over but we got a ton of layups. ... We kind of handled it. I was happy with that.”
    Werenczak scored 11 points, grabbed 20 rebounds and handed out nine assists for the Thunder. Matt Klosner led the team with 14 points and grabbed six rebounds. Will Murray chipped in with 10 points, Kamryn Perez scored nine, and Mark Brough had six steals.
    Ethan Wiedmer led the Wildcats (3-3, 1-3 CSC-I) with 11 points. Jordan Millard scored 10.
    The Thunder takes on New York Mills Jan. 3 in the opening round of the Marauders’ Ed Wadas Tournament.
