  • SYRACUSE — More than 100 people gathered for a public memorial service at Syracuse University to mark the 25th anniversary of the Pan Am Flight 103 disaster.
Thirty-five Syracuse University students studying abroad were among those killed in the 1988 bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over the Scottish town of Lockerbie. The bombing killed 259 people aboard the plane and 11 on the ground.
A service of hope and remembrance began at 2:03 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel on campus, followed by a procession to the university’s Wall of Remembrance.
Two Pan Am Flight 103 exhibits also were on display on campus. Services were held during the day in the United States and Britain.
The Syracuse Post-Standard reports a candle was lit as the names of the dead were read.
