  • BOYS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Canajoharie tops O-E-StJ

  • CANAJOHARIE, N.Y. — Josh Gonzalez scored 28 points Wednesday in the Canajoharie Cougars’ 58-43 win over Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville.
    The Cougars (3-2, 3-2 WAC North) opened a double-digit lead 2 1/2 minutes into the second quarter and the visitors never got closer than nine points after that. After Brad Smith’s three-point play made it a nine-point game late in the third quarter, Canajoharie ended the period with seven points in a row.
    Logan Sala added nine points for Canajoharie on three three-point baskets. Gonzalez had all of his points in the first three quarters; he scored 18 of the Cougars’ 32 in the first half.
    Dylan Klock scored 19 points for Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville (3-3, 2-2 WAC North). Smith added nine.
    The Wolves are on the road Friday for a game against Saratoga Catholic. Canajoharie takes on Galway Friday at home.

    FORT PLAIN, N.Y. — The Saratoga Catholic Saints opened a lead in the third quarter Wednesday and defeated Fort Plain 56-47 on the road.
    The unbeaten Saints (6-0, 4-0 WAC North), ranked seventh in Class C by the New York State Sportswriters Association, led 24-23 at halftime and outscored the Hilltoppers (2-4, 1-3 WAC North) 13-5 in the third quarter.
    Luke Spicer scored 14 points to lead Saratoga Catholic. Brian Hall added 11 points while Michael Naughton and Evan Pescetti each had 10.
    Aiden Van Loan scored 11 points and Zach Florian had 10 for Fort Plain.
    Saratoga Catholic takes on Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville at home Friday. Fort Plain is entered in Cooperstown’s Dick White Tournament Dec. 27 and 28.

    RICHFIELD SPRINGS, N.Y. — The Milford Wildcats led 33-18 at halftime Wednesday bon the way to a 69-59 win at Richfield Springs.
    Page 2 of 2 - Peyton Griffiths scored 23 points for the Wildcats who led by 17 points before allowing the Indians to score 25 in the fourth quarter. Max Lang added 12 points and Will Ward scored 11.
    Roman Hula had 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead Richfield Springs. Thomas Worobey hit three three-pointers and added 16 points.
    The Indians take on Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton at home Friday.
