  • GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Cougars win in Wolves' den

  • ST. JOHNSVILLE, N.Y. — Canajoharie’s Cougars made their first visit to the Wolves’ den Wednesday and brought home a 56-19 victory over Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville.
    The Cougars (5-2, 4-1 WAC North) scored nine of the game’s first 11 points and had an 8-0 run at the start of the second quarter. Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville was limited to two Rylie Smith foul shots during the second quarter and trailed 25-8 at halftime.
    The win was the second for Canajoharie against the Wolves (0-6, 0-4 WAC North). The Cougars were 57-21 winners when the teams met in the first round of the Canajoharie Tip-Off Tournament.
    Jessi Hagadorn led the Wolves with eight points Wednesday. Smith added six points and Merari Freeman scored four.
    Alexis Kane and Dainara Veeder each scored 10 points for Canajoharie.
    Canajoharie plays at Galway Friday while Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville is home for a game against Saratoga Catholic.
