  • Man charged after fleeing court

  • FONDA New York State Police in Fonda arrested Michael A. Shostek, 29, of Canajoharie, on Dec. 12 on a charge of third-degree escape, a misdemeanor, after he fled Palatine Town Court against the orders of the judge.
    Troopers said Shostek was at the court answering appearance tickets for petit larceny and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. While at court, the judge advised Shostek he would be turned over to the custody of the Montgomery County Corrections Department. Shostek subsequently fled the court. Troopers were dispatched to the scene and located Shostek in a nearby parking lot.
    Shostek was additionally charged with second-degree criminal contempt, second-degree criminal impersonation and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, all misdemeanors. He was processed at the state police station in Fonda, was arraigned in Palatine Town Court and committed to the Montgomery County jail with no bail. He is due back in court on Dec. 19.
