HERKIMER — The Herkimer County Office for the Aging is seeking people who would like to assist seniors in their community, particuarly in Frankfort, Schuyler, Salisbury Center, Remsen and Old Forge.
The OFA has a job pool list that is sent out to seniors throughout the county to help provide services in their home at a reasonable cost.
Seniors call the OFA and request a job pool list when they need assistance in the home. Then the list is sent and they decide who they will hire.
Most seniors are looking for assistance with transportation, shopping, housekeeping, personal care, laundry, meal preparation, companionship, yard work and mowing and snow shoveling and snow blowing.
Anyone willing and able to provide any of the services can get a registration form from the Office for the Aging. Individuals are asked to check the tasks they are willing to do, to include the hourly rate they require and to choose when they are available to work. The OFA will perform a criminal background check and check references. Individuals will be considered a private contractor, not an employee of the Office for the Aging.
For an application and more information, contact the OFA at 867-1415 or go to www.herkimercounty.org. Once on the website, click on “Departments,” then “Office for the Aging,” then “Job Pool.” Individuals may print the application and release of information form.
