  • UTICA — For the past 117 years, the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce has been the Chamber of Commerce for the Greater Utica area.
Throughout the tenure of the organization, the name of the Chamber has been modified to fit the changing times and the changing community.
As the Mohawk Valley Chamber prepares to begin its 118th year of advocating for the area business community, it will return to the organization’s historical roots. Effective Thursday, Dec. 12, the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce began renaming and branding as “Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce.”
“It literally puts us back on the map,” said John Kenealy, chairman of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, in a news release. “As we have partnered with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on different events, we have found that while most people from other parts of the country have an awareness of Utica, they do not have the same familiarity with the Mohawk Valley.”
The organization will continue to represent the same footprint in Oneida, Madison and Herkimer counties that it always has, while embracing the importance the city of Utica has to the entire region.
Executive Director Pamela Matt, added, “Renaming and branding as Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce is extremely timely with Nano Utica, the Utica Tower and the Utica Comets. Great things are happening in our business community.”
The Chamber’s website is now GreaterUticaChamber.org.
