BUTTERNUTS — If Dave Robinson hadn’t forgotten his coat, a woman and her young daughter may not have been found wandering in a wooded ravine in upstate New York.
Robinson tells The Daily Star of Oneonta that he forgot his coat after leaving to go hunting last Sunday and headed back to his home in the Otsego County town of Butternuts.
On the way, he noticed tire marks veering off the road and down into a steep, snow-covered ravine. At the bottom, he found an empty vehicle.
Robinson, a local fire chief, started searching and soon found a disoriented woman and her toddler daughter wandering in the 26-degree weather.
Firefighters arrived soon after and used ropes to pull the mother and child to safety. The woman was treated at a hospital. Her daughter was unharmed.
