  • FONDA State police arrested a Canajoharie man for seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance on Dec. 2.
Michael A. Shostek, 29, was also charged with possession of a hypodermic instrument, police said.
Shostek was arrested after police responded to the Rent-A-Center in Palatine Bridge for the larceny of a Nintendo DS. While patrolling the area, two subjects fitting the description of the two men involved in the larceny were seen near the intersection of state Route 10 and state Route 5. While speaking with the subjects, police said they observed a pill bottle sticking out of the jacket pocket of one of the men. When asked about the pill bottle, police said the man said there was a needle in it. Further investigation revealed several glassine envelopes containing heroin in the pill bottle, police said.
Shostek was released on appearance tickets to appear in Palatine Town Court on Dec. 12.
Police said Shostek was not involved in the larceny from the Rent-A-Center.
