  • GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Stockwell returns to Fort Plain for 400th win

  • FORT PLAIN, N.Y. — Larry Stockwell reached a coaching milestone in his hometown Saturday when the Waterville Indians defeated the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Bulldogs 50-28 at Fort Plain’s Section II/Section III Challenge.
    The win was the 400th for Stockwell, now in the 31st season of a career that started Oriskany Falls and continued at Waterville following consolidation of the districts. A graduate of Fort Plain High School, Stockwell owns a 400-219 varsity record.
    The Indians (2-1) took a 12-5 lead in the first quarter and never fell behind. Berne-Knox-Westerlo remained within striking distance until the fourth quarter when the Bulldogs were outscored 19-8.
    Alexis Decker led Waterville with 15 points. Hannah Gray scored 10 points and Shannon Strohmeyer had nine on three three-pointers.
    Monique Britton scored 14 points to lead Berne-Knox-Westerlo.
