  • BOYS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Wolves win Coach Cutspec Tournament opener

  • ST. JOHNSVILLE, N.Y. — Johnny Vicciarelli hit five three-point shots and scored 16 points Thursday as the Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville Wolves defeated Dolgeville’s Blue Devils 60-35 in the opening game of the Coach Cutspec Tournament.
    Middleburgh and Schoharie play Friday night in the other first-round game. The tournament finals are Saturday with the championship set for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
    Dolgeville (0-2) led 8-7 after the opening period but was outscored 39-15 in the second and third quarters. Kevin Blair contributed 12 points and 14 rebounds to the first win for the Wolves (1-1) while Dylan Klock scored nine points and Joey D’Antonino scored eight.
    Brandon Lewandowski scored 17 points for the Blue Devils and had six of their 10 field goals, including three three-pointers. Alex Johnson added nine points.

    SAUQUOIT, N.Y. — The New York Mills Marauders scored 28 points in the first quarter Thursday and coasted to a season-opening 73-31 victory over the Sauquoit Valley Indians.
    Nick Comenale scored 21 points to lead four Marauders in double figures. Terrance Nichols and Zach Vennaro each scored 11 points while Andrew Surprenant had 10.
    Ethan Harris and Ryan Griffith shared the lead for Sauquoit Valley with seven points each.
    Sauquoit Valley plays at home again Tuesday against Waterville.
