  • Canajoharie Library & Arkell Museum art show opens Dec. 6

  • CANAJOHARIE — The public is invited to a free opening reception for a juried exhibition of regional artists’ work from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, at the Canajoharie Library and Arkell Museum, 2 Erie Blvd., Canajoharie.
    The work of 30 local artists will be on display in the library’s and museum’s Community Galleries through Jan. 31, 2014.
    Pieces in the 2013 Canajoharie Library and Arkell Museum Annual Juried Art Show were selected by Ruth Daly, independent curator and gallerist.
    Work by Connie Alexander, Deb Angilletta, Matthew Bartik, Linda Biggers, Bob Buck, Jane Bynon, Joel Chapin, Virginia Clapp, Don Cooper, Ruth Crotty, Bethany Gessinger, Ali Herrmann, Linda Hinkle, Liz Horender, Paul Kant, Kathryn Kosto, Pamela Menotti, Doretta Miller, Lynda Naske, Phil Palmieri, Betty Pieper, Tim Prendergast, Nick Savides, Philomena Sculo, Gary Shankman, Donnalyn Shusler, Kris Corso Tolmie, Kathy VanLoan, Robyn Verri and David Waite will appear in the show.
    “Our juror selected an exciting blend of mediums from the applications we received for the 2013 Juried Art Show. This is the most diverse show we have had in recent memory,” library Director Leah LaFera said in a releae. “From sculptures made with forks to paintings of plastic ‘army men,’ this show, filled with whimsy and beauty features some of the most talented artists in our region.”
    Awards in painting, graphics, mixed-media and sculpture and “best in show” will be selected during the opening.
