HERKIMER — The Herkimer County Office for the Aging, in partnership with the Legal Aid Society of Mid-York, offers free legal services for individuals age 60 and older who reside in Herkimer County.
Legal aid is able to provide assistance with power of attorney, wills, health care proxies, living wills, landlord and tenant disputes and consumer and credit problems, according to a news release. Individuals who have questions or are interested in being referred to the Legal Aid Society for assistance should contact the Herkimer County Office for the Aging at 867-1124.
The Legal Aid Society of Mid-York also offers a toll-free legal helpline to assist people who need help with civil legal problems. Some legal issue which the legal helpline cover are housing, special education, public benefits, domestic violence, disability discrimination, unemployment benefits and several others. The legal helpline may be reached at 1-877-777-6152 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday.
