  • BOYS' BASKETBALL: Schoharie wins Coaches vs. Cancer game

  • JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. — Conner Brown scored 29 points Saturday and led the Schoharie Indians to a 61-58 win over Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville in a Western Athletic Conference Coaches vs. Cancer game at Fulton-Montgomery Community College.
    The Wolves rebounded a missed free throw and got the ball to midcourt before calling a timeout to set up their final shot with five seconds left to play. Johnny Vicciarelli got a tying three-point attempt off ahead of the buzzer
    Vicciarelli finished with a career-high 27 points in the loss for the Wolves while Dylan Klock chipped in with 17.
    Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville scored the first five points of the game but Schoharie came back with a 9-0 run and maintained a lead from that point on.
    Vicciarelli and Klock each had two of Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville’s eight three-pointers; Brad Smith had the other two and added six points.
    James Sackett contributed 12 points to the Schoharie cause.
    The Wolves play their home opener in St. Johnsville Thursday against Dolgeville in the first round of the Coach Cutspec Tournament. Schoharie and Middleburgh meet in the other first-round game Friday with the finals scheduled for Saturday evening.
