  • $1M bail for Liverpool man charged with stealing cruiser

  • SYRACUSE — Bail has been set at $1 million for an upstate New York man charged with slipping out of handcuffs after he was arrested and driving off in the police car.
    The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports that 33-year-old Daniel Kantak was arraigned Saturday in Syracuse city court.
    Kantak was charged with second-degree escape, second-degree burglary, criminal mischief, unauthorized use of motor vehicle, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and grand larceny.
    Police said Kantak, of Liverpool, N.Y., was arrested for a burglary on Nov. 22. According to police, Kantak slipped out of his cuffs, climbed through a window between the back seat and the front seat and drove away in the patrol car.
    Police found the car crashed into a utility pole. The crash caused a power outage.
