  • GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Fonda-Fultonville wins Canajoharie tournament opener

  • CANAJOHARIE, N.Y. — The Fonda-Fultonville Braves outscored Galway 45-5 in the second half Friday and defeated the Golden Eagles 76-22 in the opening game of Canajoharie’s tip-off tournament.
    The Braves held a one-point lead at the end of the opening period and opened a 14-point lead before halftime. After scoring just 10 points in the first quarter, the Braves topped 20 in each of the last three; they outscored the Golden Eagles 22-2 in the third quarter and 23-3 in the fourth.
    Emily Parslow’s 21 points were high for Fonda-Fultonville which had three other players reach double figures. Monica Derby added 15 points, Julianna Taylor scored 13 and Jeananna Warner had 12.
    Four players shared the team for Galway with four points each.
    Fonda-Fultonville’s opponent in Saturday’s championship game will be Canajoharie, a 57-21 winner over Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville in Friday’s nightcap.
