ILION — Lucy R. Bates, 86, of Ilion, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Sitrin Health Care in New Hartford.
Lucy was born in the town of Lennox, the daughter of the late Carmello and Angeline (Tizzone) Russo. She was a graduate of Canastota schools. On May 3, 1952, she married Joseph F. Bates in Canastota; he passed away March 16, 2006.
Lucy was devoted to her family and greatly enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of The Church of The Annunciation in Ilion.
Lucy is survived by her five daughters, Diane and her husband, John Bigg, of Vails Gate, Suzanne and her husband, Niels Mortensen, of Mohawk, Terry Telesca, of Waterford, Kathleen McNamara, of Schenectady, and Lorrie Godfrey and her companion, Pompeo Ferracane, of Colonie; and six grandchildren, Paul, Marisa and Matthew Telesca, Adam McNamara and Christopher and Mark Godfrey. Her brothers and sisters, Annie, Frankie, Sadie, Thomas, Celia, Ann, Sam and Estelle, predeceased her.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Lucy will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at 1 p.m. at The Church of The Annunciation in Ilion; Fr. Leo Potvin will officiate, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will follow in the Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion. Friends may call on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion.
Friends are asked to consider memorial donations to Ilion Ambulance, the Sitrin Home or Annunciation Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
