  • The Albany Diocese Past Regents Chapter of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas celebrated the 46th annual Memorial Mass on Oct. 19 at St Mary’s Church in Albany.
His Excellency Howard J. Hubbard, Bishop of Albany, served as principal celebrant at the liturgy. Reverend John Provost, pastor of St. Mary’s Church, and Deacon George Witko concelebrated the Mass, with Rev. Provost serving as the homilist. Woodrow Maxwell served as organist, with John Rodier serving as cantor. State Court Treasurer Emma Lou Smith was lector and Anne Senecal, president of the Past Regents Chapter, offered the Prayers of the Faithful. Chapter officers Kathleen Bowman, Marlene Nalli, Eileen Show and Anne Senecal presented the offertory gifts.
The Mass is celebrated each year in October to remember CDA members in the Albany Diocese who died during the preceding year.
At the conclusion of Mass, the state treasurer presented Bishop Hubbard with a check for $2,000 from the Marie C. Curry Seminary Scholarship Fund. The fund is a state court project funded by all of the local courts in New York. Each year the state court presents similar awards to each of the bishops in the eight dioceses to be used as financial aid for seminarians. Bishop Hubbard was also presented with a retirement gift from the chapter and the courts in the diocese. Senecal made the presentation of a certificate stating a monetary donation was made to Hope House in his name.
A luncheon was served after Mass at the Hilton Inn Restaurant in Albany with Court Mary Regis No. 638 and Court St. Martin De Porres No. 1648 serving as host courts. Chapter Vice President Bowman was toastmistress at the luncheon with the state treasurer serving as guest speaker. Officers and members attended from Court Columbia No. 248 in Hudson, Court St. Bridget No. 265 in Ilion, Court Stella Maris No. 396 in Schuylerville, Court McLaughlin No. 422 in Saratoga Springs, court Mary Regis No. 638 in Albany, Court Catherine Esther No. 1264 in Canajoharie and Court St. Martin de Porres No. 1648 in Colonie.
A money drawing took place in conjunction with the luncheon and part of the proceeds was donated to the Priests Retirement Fund.
Marlene Nalli from Fort Plain won first prize of $100 and second prize of $50 went to Court Stella Maris No. 396 in Schuylerville.
