  • PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — Northern Adirondack’s Bobcats got the better of Canajoharie’s Cougars Saturday in a meeting between teams seeking a first trip to the state’s Class C semifinals.
Section VII champion Northern Adirondack led 1-0 at halftime and broke a 1-1 tie in the second half on its way to a 3-1 victory over the first-time Section II champions at Plattsburgh High School.
Canajoharie (17-4-0) had tied the score at 1 early in the second half with Hannah Bowerman’s goal off a direct kick from beyond 30 yards.
Northern Adirondack needed a little more than a minute to get the lead back. Elle Warick scored the go-ahead goal with an assist from Rachel Venne; the same pair had combined for the Bobcats’ goal with Venne scoring off an assist from Warick. Venne would add her second goal 10 minutes later to give Northern Adirondack a two-goal cushion in the middle of the second half.
The Cougars outshot the Bobcats 12-9 but Anna Lashway responded with 10 saves for Northern Adirondack. Lauren Balfe made eight saves for Canajoharie.
Northern Adirondack travels to Cortland next weekend for Final Four play and will meet Section VI champion Holland in a 9:30 a.m. semifinal Saturday. The other Class C semifinal pits Section I Haldane against undefeated Lansing, the Section IV champion and a 2-0 regional winner over Section III Beaver River.
