STILLWATER, N.Y. — The Canajoharie Cougars shut out Waterford-Halfmoon Wednesday at Stillwater High School and claimed the school’s first Section II soccer title.
Lauren Balfe made eight saves and Andrea Dingman had two for the Cougars (17-3-0) who entered the Class C playoffs seeded third and are currently ranked sixth in the state.
Canajoharie led 1-0 at halftime on Morgan Koelbl’s header off a corner kick. Jordyn Logan and Jenelle Dillenbeck each added a goal in the second half as the Cougars extended their winning streak to eight matches with their sixth consecutive shutout. Dillenbeck, Hannah Bowerman and Ariannah Logan each contributed an assist.
Waterford-Halfmoon’s Fordians (17-2-1) were the fourth seed and had not lost since late September, a stretch that saw them win 11 matches in a row. Courtney Gardner made 20 saves in Wednesday’s loss.
Regional play sends Canajoharie to Plattsburgh Saturday for a 3 p.m. match against Section VII champion Northern Adirondack.
