ONEONTA, N.Y. — It took four overtime periods to determine a winner Saturday before the Milford Wildcats defeated Tri-Valley League rival Cherry Valley-Springfield 1-0 in Section IV’s Class D title match.
The win puts Milford (18-1-0) in regional play Saturday against Section III champion Poland, the defending state champion. Section IV will host that match at a site and time to be announced.
Sophomore Addy Lawson broke the scoreless deadlock in sudden-death play a little more than one minute into overtime No. 4. Emilie Mertz assisted on the only goal in the contest as Milford defeated Cherry Valley-Springfield (14-3-1); the Wildcats had cliched the TVL East title with another 1-0 win over the Patriots 19 days earlier.
Milford had a 9-8 edge in shots. Rukiye Henderson made five saves in the shutout while Kylie Graham had seven for Cherry Valley-Springfield.
