  • GIRLS' SOCCER: Canajoharie advances to play for C crown

  • TROY,†N.Y.†ó Jenelle Dillenbeck scored the lone goal in the second half Saturday and the Canajoharie Cougars earned a spot in Section IIís Class C title match with their 1-0 win over Hoosic Valley at Lansingburgh High School.
    Lauren Balfe made 12 saves in the shutout for third-seeded Canajoharie (16-3-0) which will play for a sectional championship Wednesday at 4:30 p.m, against Waterford-Halfmoon at Stillwater High School.
    Samantha Carlo made 14 saves for Hoosic Valley (12-6-0) which entered the tournament seeded second.
    The Class C final will follow the Class D match between Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville and Fort Ann Wednesday in Stillwater.
    TROY, N.Y.†ó The Fordians of Waterford-Halfmoon knocked off upset-minded Maple Hill Saturday and earned a shot at Section IIís Class C championship with their 2-1 semifinal victory.
    Maple Hill (8-9-2) entered the playoffs as the ninth seed and had shut out previously-undefeated No. 1 Schoharie in the quarterfinals.
    Saturdayís match was tied at 1 at halftime. Ashley LeFebvre broke the tie by scoring her second goal in the second half for No. 4 Waterford-Halfmoon (17-1-1).
    Courtney Gardner made seven saves for the Fordians.
    Kayla Hanrahan scored for Maple Hill and Anna Pulver made four saves.
