MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — The Poland Tornadoes earned the chance to defend their Section III title with Wednesday’s 3-0 shutout of Cincinnatus in a Class D semifinal at SUNY-Morrisville.
Poland had beaten Cincinnatus 5-3 in last year’s final in Chittenango. The Tornadoes’ opponent Saturday will be undefeated Copenhagen, the No. 1 seed and a 2-1 winner semifinal Tuesday over Remsen.
Sophomore Mikayla Blumenstock had a hat trick Thursday for Poland (16-2-0), adding three goals to the school’s career record she broke in the Tornadoes’ previous win. Shiane Irwin and Jourdan Flansburg each assisted on one goal scored by Blumenstock who had two goals before halftime and one after.
Neither Courtney Green nor Claire Lepper was called upon to make a save in the shutout for Poland.
Carly McCumber had 16 saves for Cincinnatus (16-3-0).
Poland and Copenhagen will play at 4:30 p.m. Saturday on SUNY-Cortland’s red field in the second match of a championship tripleheader. Little Falls and Beaver River will play the Class C match at 2 p.m. East Syracuse-Minoa meets Jamesville-DeWitt in the Class A final at 7 p.m.
