  • GIRLS' SOCCER: Canajoharie advances

  • CANAJOHARIE, N.Y.†ó Jenelle Dillenbeck scored two goals and assisted on the third Tuesday as the Canajoharie Cougars defeated Berlin 3-0 in the quarterfinals of Section IIís Class C playoffs.
    Lauren Balfe and Andrea Dingman each was credited with four saves in the shutout as Canajoharie (15-3-0), seeded third, won its sixth consecutive match and advanced to meet No. 2 Hoosic Valley Saturday at Lansingburgh High School.
    Canajoharie led 2-0 at halftime. Morgan Gray assisted on one of the Dillenbeck goals and Dillenbeck had the assist on a goal scored by Jordyn Logan.
    Canajoharie and Hoosic Valley will play the first of two semifinal matches at Lansingburgh Saturday. Waterford-Halfmoon meets Maple Hill in the second. Maple Hill, seeded ninth, upset top seed Schoharie Tuesday and advanced with a 1-0 shutout. Schoharie is the only Class C team that has beaten Canajoharie this fall.
    SCHAGHTICOKE, N.Y.†ó Hoosic Valleyís Brittany Whitford converted on a last-minute penalty kick Tuesday and the the second-seeded Indians advanced to Section IIís Class C semifinals with a 3-2 win over the Middleburgh Knights.
    The match had been scoreless at halftime and was tied at 2 when Whitford scored in the 80th minute of play.
    Almy Bartis scored the first two goals for Hoosic Valley (13-5-0) and Samantha Carlo made 14 saves.
    Amanda Roney and Taylor Cator scored for No. 7 Middleburgh (11-7-0) and Kiera Morgan made 12 saves.
