  • Nine a cappella groups to battle in Turning Stone competition

  • Nine Upstate New York collegiate a cappella groups are hoping to hit a high note during Turning Stone Resort Casino’s A Cappella Showdown at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17, in the resort’s showroom.
    The performing groups are:
    • Colgate Dischords — Colgate University
    • Groovestand — Syracuse University
    • Duelly Noted — Hamilton College
    • Touchtones — Cornell University
    • IC Voicestream — Ithaca College
    • Eight Beat Measure — Rochester Institute of Technology
    • Vocal Accent — Rochester Institute of Technology
    • Drastic Measures — Skidmore College
    • Binghampton Crosbys — SUNY Binghampton
    The event will be hosted by American Idol season 10 competitor Jovany Javier, who will also perform two songs. Three judges will also lend a musically inclined ear to rank the performers: Mike Chin, co-founder and author of “A Cappella Blog”, top-ten finisher on NBC’s The Sing Off Johanna Vinson; and a judge who has yet to be announced.
